Anritsu Corporation, a global provider of operational support solutions for advanced and converged networks has introduced the MD8391A RNC Simulator, a compact, low price NodeB test solution. Traditionally, NodeB testing is conducted by using bulky proprietary legacy systems that are often difficult to upgrade and rarely cost effective. Mounted on a 19-inch rack and weighing less than 10Kg in total, the MD8391A is Anritsu’s solution for infrastructure vendors wishing to efficiently test the NodeB’s and save cost whilst reducing time to market. The product will bring further cost and efficiency benefits to infrastructure developers, manufacturers, and network operators who are implementing HSDPA and other features of 3GPP Rel 5 through automated measurement software. Thanks to Anritsu’s extended simulator portfolio, end-to-end network testing, monitoring and loading can now be fully implemented at a fraction of the cost of a live network. This means that customers can dramatically reduce time to market and increase Return on Investment. The MD8391A RNC Simulator can control to two BTS’s simultaneously. With RNC L2 module the simulator can also send and receive PPP/IP packets to NodeB. It can also transmit and receive transport blocks and performs NodeB receiver and TrCH BER measurements. For transmitter testing, the MD8391A RNC Simulator communicates with NodeB by NBAP/ALCAP messages from the Iub side in a RF characteristic test specified by 3 GPP TS25.141. NodeB can be activated with setup of a Test Model signal. The MD8391A RNC Simulator controls Node-B in a receive state for Rx tests. The unit has a BER measurement function and measures Bit Error Rate of an UL signal for the Reference Sensitivity Level measurement. The Simulator can also be used to troubleshoot NodeB in the field if problems arise in the 3G network. It can also be used to verify the software downloads/upgrades on a NodeB before it is connected to the live network.
