The Ministry of Information and Communication said on Feb. 15 that it would build a testbed for robot research, which will test simulations of robot movements such as humanoid ¡®Maru¡¯ developed the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. MIC and KIST has developed a simulation framework for Maru in league with robot and game research firm Simulation Lab ( http://www.simlab.co.kr), and plans to introduce the technology to the public after testing.

With the new testbed, robot researchers will be able to test dynamic algorithm of humanoid robots, and spur development of applications adopting robot platforms.

The ministry also plans to promote adoption of Robotis ( http://www.robotis.com), a 60cm-sized humanoid known as RX, among academic and research organizations.

It aims to provide humanoid platforms with maximum interoperability and extensibility; foster skilled robot research workforce; and help businesses secure applications and content for robot business. As a part of efforts to boost interoperability across a wide range of content, MIC plans to link the testbed with wireless Internet middleware platform 'WIPI' technology.
