By admin at Wed, 2006-02-22 02:28 Humana Inc. knows seniors are confused about Medicare Part D. Therefore, they decided to educate some of their employees about the enrollment process, and put them in ten RVs to drive around the country and answer questions. And on Friday, some of those representatives stopped by the Madisonville Walmart. Dorothy Moore says, "Humana's motives are self-serving to a degree. They do hope you'll buy supplemental insurance from them, but there is no obligation. The advice is still free, and for many seniors, it's the first time they've had the chance to talk to someone face to face about what can be a very confusing enrollment process." Jim Turner from Humana Corporate Communications explains, "The basic questions are when does the enrollment period begin? When do I need to sign up by? What are the drugs that are covered? Will you cover my drugs? The big one of course, what does it cost? " Humana is one of the companies federally-approved to sell the medicare drug benefit. Like many of its competitors, it has different plans to suit clients based on how many prescriptions they fill each month. This is where it gets confusing with the different co-pays, premiums, and list of covered drugs. Some folks who already have drug benefits through their former employers are now finding those companies are only willing to pick up the expenses that Medicare won't. Humana's advice is to find out exactly what kind of coverage you have now and then check out what else is out there. Also, be patient with the new federal program, it is in its infancy. Turner states, "The feedback we've gotten from seniors, especially those seniors who take one or more prescription drug, is now I'm going to have a prescription drug benefit and it's going to cost me less than it did. We think for the people who sign up and who need it, it's something they'll appreciate and really benefit from." You have until May 15th to sign up for the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.
